CASA

In my Child Welfare class I heard of the opportunity to be a volunteer CASA worker. So I looked into it and decided it was something that I wanted to do. CASA stands for Court Appointed Special Advocate. I had to do 40 plus hours of training which included every Tuesday and Thursday night for the month of October. I also had to go view court in session, do some additional online training, and read a book. It was a lot of work and time consuming but I finished and about two weeks ago I was sworn in by the judge. I am VERY excited about this opportunity. Basically what I will be doing in working with the guardian ad litem which is a child attorney. I will be assigned a case and the cases can range from working with one kid to many. These cases will deal with abuse, sexual abuse, neglect, foster children, and etc. I then will spend time with the child/children and do fun activities with them and basically just get them to talk to me and trust me. Whatever they tell me or whatever they want I tell the guardian ad litem. I will be observing their homes, and their parents, I will be talking to their teachers, counselors and anyone else that they work with. I will report all that I find to the guardian ad litem. I also will be attending their court sessions and possibly speaking to the judge of what I have observed. I am nervous but excited to work with kids who need someone to speak up for them! The opportunity to make a difference in a child's life is what I want to do with my life and I feel this is a great starting point for me!

My grandpa was able to be there for the swearing in!

(What a crazy fun week I had! On my birthday I started out by going to the Temple with Hannah and then she bought me a birthday bagel from Einstein's. After school and work I came home to my room decorated and a JBiebs poster and candy on my bed from my sister and cousin. For dinner McKayla and Alicia took me to Firehouse and we ate bread sticks and a fozookie! After that I got a big group to meet at the bowling alley and we went bowling! My friend Jeff works there and he made sure I bowled for free. So nice! Later that week on Friday my family came up! They were headed to my grandparents 50th anniversary but they stopped in Logan to take me out to eat and spend the night with me! So they got here and I opened presents and then we went to eat at the HU HOT! Later that evening us sibling went and bowled once again :) It was a great night and I loved seeing my family!)

First few weeks of school!

I have been so bad at blogging lately but I have been crazy busy! These first weeks of school started off with a bang and haven't slowed down! With reading and papers and homework and work and then having a social life, its been crazy. But I'll fill you in on some fun things that I have done these past few weeks!

I went down a week and a half earlier before school started and got to attend my good friend Kayla's wedding reception! She was gorgeous and it was so good seeing her! And get this, Elder L. Tom Perry performed her wedding sealing! So I got to meet him and his wife at the reception!

She's Beautiful!

So that week before school started I got hang with my mom for a while and that was really nice. We traveled beck and forth from Logan to West Haven a few times so I also got to spend time with some more family! But It was nice to have someone help me move all my crap into my apartment which was on the third floor!

How exciting it has been to have McKayla up here with me as well! Just one more day and Shana will be moving to Salt Lake so us sisters will all be closer!

The weekend before school started we wanted one more fun day so we attempted a beach day. It kinda failed because Hyrum Dam does not have sand just mud and rocks. But we all had fun just sitting and visiting!

The first week of school is always the best and every year is the traditional 80's dance! How lucky am I to have both my sister ad cousin up here?! Aimee went with us for a bit and we enjoyed getting dressed up and dancing that night!

Thank thrift stores for the 50 cent jacket and fanny pack!

Cousins/Best Friends!

The first weekend after school started Cache Valley had a mud run. It was seriously so much fun! It literally was just mud! We slid down muddy slip n' slides, jumped over hay bales, climb ropes, army crawled through mud, waded through a trench of  thick mud up to our waists, crawled through ice cold water, and so on! IT was insane and something I would definitely do again! Me, McKayla, Carolee, and Jordin went!

Before the run!

After the run!

After the run!

We so excited!

After our cold showers!

Two weekends after the mud run I went to Brigham City to attend the Peach Day festivities with some friends! It was fun! We watched the parade, walked around all the booths and I even tried peach cobbler for the first time. And get this.....I actually liked it. hahaha

Parade with Tina!

Peach Cobbler!

And just last night some friends and I went to our homecoming game against Weber and it POURED! But we stayed through it and got drenched but what a game it was! Us 70, Weber 6!

We were soaked!

After the game I went late night bowling with some new friends! Bowled a 164 so I was mighty proud! But what a fun night! Maybe my bowling class last year paid off!?

So there you have it, the last few weeks summed up! My family is great, college is great, my friends are great, and life is great! Until next time!
